- The Foundation Center The Foundation Center is an independent nonprofit information clearinghouse established to foster public understanding of the foundation field by collecting, organizing, analyzing, and disseminating information on foundations, corporate giving, and related subjects. - American Association of University Women A national organization that promotes education and equity for all women and girls.
- American Cancer Society Provides investigator-initiated and institutional grants for research and training related to the prevention and cure of cancer.
- American Chemical Society Petroleum Research Fund Supports advanced scientific education and fundamental research in the "petroleum field," which may include any field of pure science that may afford a basis for subsequent applied research directly connected with petroleum.
- American Council of Learned Societies Supports both domestic and international studies in the humanities and social sciences.
- American Diabetes Association Funds research, publishes scientific findings, and provides information and other services to people with diabetes, their families, health care professionals and the public.
- American Express Company Makes grants in three program areas: Community Service, Cultural Heritage, and Economic Independence to non-profit organizations in the U.S.

- Annenberg/CPB Projects The Annenberg/CPB Higher Education Project and the Annenberg/CPB Math and Science Project.
- Arthritis Foundation The mission of the Arthritis Foundation is to support research to find the cure for and prevention of arthritis and to improve the quality of life for those affected by arthritis.
- BellSouth Foundation Seeks to improve outcomes and stimulate active learning for students in elementary and secondary education in the South.

- Carnegie Corporation of New York Currently supports four areas: education and healthy development of children and youth, preventing deadly conflict, strengthening human resources in developing countries, and special projects.
- Anne E. Casey Foundation Funds projects that provide community support for children and families.
- Corporation for Public Broadcasting Funding is generally restricted to public television stations and station consortia, and to non-public television entities whose projects are expressly for the benefit of public television stations.
- DAAD - Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (German Academic Exchange Service) Supports a variety of programs to allow faculty, post-doctoral candidates and graduate students to study, establish collaborative programs and conduct research at German Universities and laboratories.

- Gladys Krieble Delmas Foundation promotes the advancement and perpetuation of humanistic inquiry and artistic creativity by encouraging excellence in scholarship and in the performing arts, and by supporting research libraries and other institutions that preserve the resources which transmit this cultural heritage.
- FMC Foundation Provides funds "...for charitable, scientific, educational and cultural purposes in furtherance of the public welfare and the well-being of mankind."
- FAME Professional Services Interested in shaping the emerging communications environment.
- Gas Research Institute GRI is the research, development and commercialization organization of the natural gas industry. Its mission is to discover, develop, and deploy technologies that enhance the value of gas energy.
- The Glenn Foundation for Medical Research Supports research on biological mechanisms of aging.
- J. Paul Getty Trust Supports work in visual arts and humanities; primarily conservation, scholarship, and education in the visual arts.
- Global Fund for Women An international grantmaking organization that focuses on women's rights. It supports issues as diverse as literacy, domestic violence, economic autonomy, and the international trafficking of women.
- John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Provides fellowships for advanced professionals in all fields (natural sciences, social sciences, humanities, creative arts) except the performing arts.
- Gunk Foundation Concentrates on supporting two types of projects--public arts projects (funded through The Gunk Foundation) and scholarly/artistic publications (through Critical Press, the publishing arm of the Foundation.)
- Hartford Docotral Fellows Program in Geriatric Social Work Dissertation grants to sustain students of gerontology thereby enabling them to focus on timely completion of high quality doctoral research and training.
- Hewlett-Packard Company Product gifts account for most of HP's philanthropy. Grants program provides equipment to support undergraduate and graduate instruction and research projects. In addition, HP supports the areas of K-12 math and science education, health, the arts, human services and the environment with HP computers, peripherals and analytical products that improve organizational efficiency and effectiveness. - Howard Hughes Medical Institute HHMI is a medical research organization whose scientists across the country study the biological systems that underlie health and disease. In addition, through its grants program, the Institute sponsors the largest private science education program in U.S. history and supports the research of outstanding biomedical scientists abroad.
- International Foundation for Science Supports young, meritorious scientists from developing countries conducting research in aquatic resources, animal production, crop science, forestry/agroforestry, food science, or natural products.
- Robert Wood Johnson Foundation The largest US private philanthropy devoted to health care.
- Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation Focused on four main areas: health policy, reproductive health, HIV policy, and health and development in South Africa.
- The Charles A. and Anne Morrow Lindbergh Foundation The Lindbergh Foundation seeks to further balance between the natural environment and technology through a variety of educational and research projects and programs.
- Edward Lowe Foundation The mission of the Edward Lowe Foundation is to champion the entrepreneurial spirit by providing information, research and education experiences which support small business people and the free enterprise system.
- George Lucas Educational Foundation Facilitates the use of interactive multimedia technologies for learning.
- John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation Dedicated to helping groups and individuals to improve the human condition. The majority of funds are concentrated in Chicago, but some national support is available.
- James S. McDonnell Foundation The foundation's primary program interests are in the biomedical and behavioral sciences, with over 90% of its annual grant awards supporting basic and applied research. Support for research, however, is provided primarily through foundation-initiated programs (RFPs). Current foundation-initiated programs include: The McDonnell-Pew Program in Cognitive Neuroscience, Molecular Medicine in Cancer Research, Cognitive Studies for Educational Practice, The Initiative to Support Collaborative Research in Eastern Europe, and Special Interest Grants (the last category is primarily for programs that benefit the St. Louis area).
- Andrew W. Mellon Foundation The Foundation currently makes grants on a selective basis to institutions of higher education in: Cultural affairs and the performing arts, population, conservation and the environment, and public affairs.
- Mitsubishi Electric America Foundation Supports efforts to improve the quality of life for disabled youth.
- Karl E. Mundt Foundation Funds programs relating to agriculture, free enterprise, humanities, forensics, history, and education.
- Nieman Foundation for Journalism A Harvard University foundation that provides one-year fellowships for graduate study at Harvard to working journalists of particular accomplishment or promise.
- Pauline Oliveros Foundation Inc. Furthers research in arts technology and sponsors the exploration and uses of art for education and the development of human consciousness.
- The David and Lucille Packard Foundation Supports institutions--including universities, community groups, youth agencies, family planning centers, and hospitals--that complement government efforts to focus on society's needs.
- Pew Charitable Trusts The Trusts make grants to nonprofit organizations working in the areas of culture, education, the environment, health and human services, public policy and religion. Also provides funding for projects that pursue interdisciplinary approaches to broad issues of significant interest or concern.
- Rockefeller Brothers Fund The fund's major objective is to improve the well-being of all people. The grantmaking program is organized around the theme of One World, with two major components: Sustainable resource use and world security. - Russell Sage Foundation Devoted exclusively to research in the social sciences. The Foundation is a research center, a funding source for studies by scholars at other academic and research institutions, and an active member of the nation's social science community. It also publishes, under its own imprint, the books that derive from the work of its grantees and visiting scholars.
- Sierra Club Foundation Funds non-legislative activities, including research, public education, and publishing.
- Social Science Research Council Devoted to the advancement of interdisciplinary research in the Social Science.
- Alfred P. Sloan Foundation Main interests are: science and technology; standard of living, competitiveness, and economics; education and careers in science and technology; and selected national issues.
- Spencer Foundation Grants funds to support research which contributes to the understanding and improvement of education.
- Sprint Corporation Provides grants in education, arts & culture, community improvement, and youth development. Some programs may not be open to universities.
- Surdna Foundation Surdna's grantmaking activities are concentrated in four programmatic areas: environment, community revitalization, effective citizenry and a small program in the arts that is by invitation only.
- United Parcel Service (UPS) provides support in the areas of human welfare and education.
- United States-Japan Foundation The principal mission of the Foundation is to promote greater mutual knowledge between the United States and Japan and to contribute to a strengthened understanding of important public policy issues of interest to both countries. Grants are currently awarded in two main areas: Precollege Education & Policy Studies.
- Kurt Weill Foundation for Music Provides financial support to individuals and not-for-profit organizations for projects related to Weill or Lenya. Proposals are accepted in the following categories: Research and Travel, Publication Assistance, Dissertation Fellowships, Professional and Regional Performance and Production, College and University Performance and Production, Recording Projects, and Broadcasts
- Wellspring Foundation Formerly dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in New York City. With increased resources, the Foundation has branched out into other reas and grants are now made in Education, Southeast Asia, Documentary Film Production, and Environmental Conservation. Special consideration is given to new and innovative programs and partnerships between non-profits, communities and government agencies.
- The Whitaker Foundation Primarily supports research and training in biomedical engineering.
