Information for Sponsors
The University of Louisville is a public institution of postsecondary education of the Commonwealth of Kentucky. UofL is a body politic and corporate in law. The University of Louisville Reserch Foundation, Inc. (ULRF) is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit corporation acting as the agent of the University of Louisville for receiving grants and research agreements from external funding sources. ULRF also owns and controls intellectual property on behalf of the University.
Industry Contracts has responsibility for the review/clearance of the following projects:
1. The project is a clinical trial using the operational definition of clinical trial for the purpose of proposal submission
2. The project involves one or more of our affiliated hospital sites (Norton Healthcare, Jewish & St. Mary’s, University Hospital, VAMC) or other external healthcare provider
3. The project involves a small business or other for-profit entity with a governmental flow-through such as the SBIR/STTR or KSTC programs where the business will contract with the University (not the University contracting with the governmental agency)
4. The project is sponsored or funded by a for-profit/industry entity
The Office of Industry Contracts (OIC) is organized in two divisions. The Clinical Research Services (CRS) division focuses on clinical trials and clinical research/clinical activities (generally research or sponsored activities that would require review or approval by the Institutional Review Board (IRB)) sponsored by industry or involving one of the hospitals in the Louisville Medical Center. The Nonclinical Industry Collaborations (NIC) division focuses on projects with industry that would not involve human subjects (projects that would require review or approval by the IRB.) If you know your project is a clinical trial or will use resources/facilities of one of the Louisville Medical Center hospitals, you may contact our Clinical Research Division directly; otherwise, we will review the project and assign it appropriately within our office.
