After working with hazardous chemicals, biological agents, radioactive materials, physical hazards or dangerous equipment in our research and teaching laboratories, clinics, trade and machine shops, art and theater studios, vivariums, athletic facilities and other workplace settings at UofL, DEHS strives for Everyone Home Safely through continuous improvement, regulatory compliance, and a shared culture of safety.

Research Laboratory Safety and Training Management
DEHS, in partnership with Principal Investigators, uses SciShield™ to manage research laboratory information, and to monitor safety and training.

Chemical Safety
The Laboratory Chemical Safety program provides guidance to UofL faculty, staff and students on the safe use of chemical agents in research and clinical activities.
Occupational Health & Safety
The OHS group of DEHS provides services and compliance guidance to the University community for many aspects of workplace health and safety.
Radiation Safety
The Radiation Safety Office (RSO) is responsible for and oversees the safe use of radiation and radioactive material on all UofL campuses, University Hospital, and the James Brown Cancer Center.
Regulated Waste
The Environmental Operations & Hazardous Material (EOHM) group of DEHS is directly responsible for the management of hazardous, biohazardous, radioactive, and universal waste from "cradle-to-grave".
