The University Committee for Animal Welfare (UCAW) assumes responsibility for those functions delineated in the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, the Public Health Service (PHS) Policy on Humane Care and Use of Laboratory Animals and the Animal Welfare Regulations promulgated by the Animal Welfare Act.

Training resources
UCAW has developed training programs to ensure that personnel are appropriately trained and aware of potential hazards based on their roles and responsibilities.
Proposal review process
UCAW reviews all animal research proposals and requests to use animal tissue, including those involved in pilot and/or internally funded research. Learn more about the process.
Semi-annual inspections
UCAW reviews the animal care program and inspects animal facilities as well as research laboratories at least every six months. Learn more about the process.
