The 3Rs and the Culture of Care Webinar Series

Join us for our monthly webinar series designed to educate scientists about the 3Rs of animal research and support a culture of care.

Handling and training of mice and rats for low-stress procedure

May 13, 2026, 3:00 PM, Baxter I Auditorium

Therése Ahlström, a laboratory engineer and animal technician at Research Institutes of Sweden (RISE), joined NC3Rs to speak about the pioneering approach taken by RISE to implementing refinements for handling mice and rats. Therése highlights the importance of creating trust and cooperation between the animals and handlers, starting as soon as new animals arrive at the facility. Gentle handling and training reduce stress-related behaviours during research, and this can be achieved with a few short training sessions before a study commences.

Watch this webinar to see how you can train your mice and rats, and to observe the impressive results that arise from employing these techniques.

This webinar was originally hosted by NC3Rs, a UK-based scientific organization dedicated to helping the research community worldwide to identify, develop, and use 3Rs technologies and approaches.
